Glass & silica — from Zafarana sand to finished float glass
Egypt's glass industry is built on its silica: the white quartz sands of Zafarana on the Gulf of Suez and the Sinai deposits run to 98–99 % SiO₂ with low iron, which is what float and container glass lines require. Egypt Globe Group supplies both ends of that chain — clear float glass 4 mm in 2140 × 3300 mm jumbo sheets for construction glazing, and the silica sand behind it, in glass grade SiO₂ 99 %, standard 98 %, foundry grade AFS 50–55 and 200-mesh silica flour for oilwell cementing and paints.
For a glass melter, iron is the controlling impurity — a few hundredths of a percent of Fe₂O₃ moves a clear melt to green. For a foundry, it is clay content and grain distribution (AFS number) that decide mould strength and casting surface. For a glazing contractor, it is thickness tolerance and optical defects. Regional suppliers often ship on a typical analysis rather than a lot analysis. EGG's QA division samples every sand lot at the washing plant and port and every glass lot at the packing line, and issues a Certificate of Analysis or inspection report before the Bill of Lading. Out-of-spec lots are rejected at the loading port.
