Egyptian aggregates — graded, tested and released per lot
Egypt's hard-rock quarries — the Aswan and Eastern Desert granites and the Western Desert dolomites — produce crushed aggregate with the particle strength and low absorption that structural concrete, asphalt and industrial batch require, at a freight distance that makes Egyptian rock competitive into the Gulf, East Africa and the eastern Mediterranean where local sources are weak or absent. Egypt Globe Group supplies two lines: crushed granite aggregate 20 mm for concrete production and road base, and dolomite aggregate 10 mm chips for asphalt surfacing, glass batch and refractory.
Aggregate quality is a grading and soundness question. A concrete producer who receives a 10/20 fraction with 15 % oversize or 8 % fines has to redesign the mix on site; an asphalt plant that receives soft or flaky chips fails its polished-stone and Los Angeles tests. Many regional quarries ship on a visual check. EGG's QA division runs a sieve analysis, flakiness index, aggregate crushing value and water absorption on every lot at the port laboratory and issues a gradation report and Certificate of Analysis before the Bill of Lading. Lots outside the contractual grading envelope are rejected at the loading port.
