Egyptian gypsum — purity and combined water verified on every lot
Gypsum (calcium sulphate dihydrate, CaSO₄·2H₂O) occurs in Egypt as thick Miocene evaporite beds in Sinai and along the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez coasts, quarried by open-cast bench mining close to the Ain Sokhna and Damietta loading chains. Egypt Globe Group supplies two product lines from this resource: raw gypsum rock at ≥ 85 % CaSO₄·2H₂O for cement mills (set retarder), plasterboard feed and agricultural soil conditioning, and calcined gypsum plaster of Paris at ≥ 90 % hemihydrate for building plaster, moulds and casting.
For a cement mill, gypsum purity governs SO₃ dosing and therefore setting time of the finished cement; for a plasterboard line it governs slurry water demand and board strength. A lot that drifts from 88 % to 78 % dihydrate changes both. Many regional quarries ship on a single historical analysis. EGG's QA division samples every lot at the quarry face and again at the port, determines purity by combined-water and sulphate analysis (ASTM C471M / EN 13279-2), and releases the cargo on a Certificate of Analysis before the Bill of Lading. Lots below the contractual purity are rejected at the loading port.
