Egypt's fertilizer industry
Egypt's fertilizer industry is built on two feedstocks: natural gas, which makes it one of the world's large urea exporters, and domestic phosphate rock, which feeds its superphosphate and phosphoric-acid plants. Nitrogen is where the export volume is — 3.22 million tonnes of urea worth about US$1.41 billion in 2024, second in the world by export value (UN Comtrade via World Bank WITS). Compound NPK is a smaller, mostly blended business that draws on those nitrogen and phosphate streams plus imported potash.
