Pick commodity + CIF value → indicative duty + VAT + levies. Final rates confirmed by your customs broker.
Indicative only. Actual rates depend on your destination port + national regulations + your broker's classification. HS code 2523.29.00 for Cement (Portland CEM I 42.5N).
India is a strategic market for Egyptian phosphate rock, sulphur, salt, cotton, and downstream fertilizer feedstock. Geographic proximity (9-15 day Sokhna → JNPT transit), strong Indian downstream chemical / fertilizer / textile industries, and the absence of large customs barriers make this a high-frequency lane.
Indian Customs (CBIC — Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs) assesses Basic Customs Duty (BCD) + Social Welfare Surcharge (SWS) + IGST (Integrated GST) + applicable cess. Examples (representative — verify per current Customs Tariff):
Valuation is typically transaction value (CIF basis with limited adjustments). Anti-Dumping Duty applies to a specific list of products from specific origins — confirm whether your HS-code + Egyptian origin combination is covered.
BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) mandates BIS marking for certain commodities (chemicals, electrical, steel, food). Pre-shipment BIS registration of foreign manufacturer + per-shipment BIS testing may be required. Egypt Globe Group can coordinate BIS testing on the Egyptian side via Indian-recognised labs.
FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) controls all food imports. FSSAI Import License + per-shipment Health Certificate from Egyptian authority required.
India and Egypt are NOT in a bilateral FTA, but Egypt is a member of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) — limited overlap with India. Standard MFN tariff applies.
Vessel transit: Sokhna → JNPT 9-12 days, Sokhna → Mundra 10-13 days, Damietta → JNPT 14-17 days (longer because Damietta routes via Suez).
- Commercial Invoice (Egyptian Chamber-stamped)
- Packing List
- Bill of Lading (3 originals; LCL ok for smaller shipments)
- Certificate of Origin (Egyptian Chamber, non-preferential — no FTA)
- BIS Test Certificate (for regulated commodities) + ISI mark
- FSSAI Health Certificate (for food)
- Phytosanitary Certificate (for agricultural / plant-based)
- Mill Test Certificate / CoA — per shipment
- Bill of Entry — filed by importer with CBIC
Typical: 3-4 weeks ex-warehouse to vessel sailing, then 2 weeks Sokhna→JNPT transit. Total 5-6 weeks order-to-arrival. We quote FOB / CIF / CFR — Sokhna is preferred POL for Indian destinations due to Suez-toll savings.
