India-Egypt Trade Agreement (under negotiation)

Bilateral Comprehensive Trade & Investment Agreement (CETA) under negotiation as of 2026. Until ratified, trade operates under WTO MFN rates + India-Africa preferential schemes.

Indian Customs Tariff

• Phosphate rock HS 2510.20: 0% MFN (India incentivises P imports for food security)
• Sulphur HS 2503.00: 2.5% MFN, often 0% with concession
• Natural gypsum HS 2520.10: 5% MFN (some lots 0% under capital goods scheme)
• DAP HS 3105.30: 5% MFN, often subsidized via GOI fertiliser-subsidy scheme
• Industrial salt HS 2501.00: 10% MFN
• Cotton HS 5201.00: 11% MFN, plus 5% safeguard duty in some periods

IGST (Integrated GST)

• Applied at import based on customs value + duty
• Most commodities: 18% IGST standard
• Fertilizers: 5% IGST (concessional)
• Recoverable input credit for GST-registered buyers

BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification

• Mandatory for many regulated products including cement (IS 269/8112), fertilizers (FCO compliance)
• FCO (Fertiliser Control Order) — mandatory for fertilizer imports — physical/chemical specs, packaging marks, bagging weights
• DGFT registration — importer must have IEC (Import Export Code) + product-specific licences

Import compliance is only half of supply-chain risk; the other half is whether the cargo that arrives matches the specification that was tendered. Egypt Globe Group closes that gap before the vessel sails: every lot is tested at the port laboratory and released on a Certificate of Analysis or Mill Test Certificate before the Bill of Lading, and independent pre-shipment inspection (mandatory for most conformity programmes and every L/C-financed shipment) is coordinated at the Egyptian port.
