GOST 13830 — CIS Deicing Salt Standard (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan)

GOST 13830 CIS deicing salt standard for Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan. Grade I (97% NaCl) + Grade II (95% NaCl, bulk). Egyptian rock + sea salt EAC mark compliant.

01

GOST 13830 — Russian/CIS Standard for Salt (NaCl)

GOST 13830-97: "Технический хлористый натрий. Технические условия" (Technical sodium chloride — Technical conditions) is the Russian Federation standard for industrial-grade sodium chloride, used across the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) — Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan — and the broader Eurasian Customs Union. Egypt Globe Group supplies GOST 13830 Grade I and Grade II salt — Siwa Oasis and Qattara Depression rock salt meets the Grade I 97 % NaCl floor natively (guaranteed ≥ 97.00 %) — with every lot verified against the GOST parameter set by the port laboratory before the Bill of Lading.

Scope

Defines technical sodium chloride for:

  • De-icing road salt (highway, urban, airport)
  • Chemical industry (chlor-alkali)
  • Leather tanning
  • Animal husbandry + agricultural use
  • Industrial water treatment
  • Drilling mud + oilfield

Excludes food + pharmaceutical salt (covered by GOST R 51574 + Russian Pharmacopoeia separately).

04

Grades

GOST 13830 defines 3 grades (cорта):

Grade (cорт)NaCl % minInsoluble % maxUse
Grade I (Сорт 1 / Высший)≥ 97.0≤ 0.5Highway pre-treatment, chemical industry, leather
Grade II (Сорт 2)≥ 95.0≤ 1.0General industrial, agriculture
Grade III (Сорт 3)≥ 92.0≤ 2.0Bulk industrial, basic de-icing, drilling

Grade I is the CIS premium tier — stricter purity than EU EN 16811-1 Grade A or US ASTM D632.

Gradation

GOST 13830 doesn't mandate specific particle sizes (unlike EN 16811-1 grades A/B/C). Particle size is procurement-spec dependent. Typical CIS road-salt procurement:

Highway Grade I
0.5-5 mm working range
Stockpile lump
1.2-10 mm
Fine pre-wet prep
0.5-2.5 mm
07

Pre-wetting compatibility

Russian + CIS winter operations universally pre-wet road salt with:

CaCl₂ brine
at 32% concentration (preferred for -25°C+ operations)
MgCl₂ brine
at 30% (standard practice)
NaCl brine
at 23%

Pre-wetting extends working temperature to -20°C (NaCl), -25°C (MgCl₂), or -32°C (CaCl₂).

Egyptian compliance

Egypt Globe Group supplies GOST 13830-compliant salt:

[PS-ROCK-DEIC-CIS](/products/salt/de-icing-grade/ps-rock-deic-cis)
Egyptian Bulk Rock Salt for Deicing — GOST Grade I 0.5-5 mm
[PS-ROCK-DEIC-CIS-II](/products/salt/de-icing-grade/ps-rock-deic-cis-ii)
Egyptian Bulk Rock Salt for Deicing — GOST Grade II 1.2-10 mm CIS
[PS-SEA-DEIC-CIS](/products/salt/de-icing-grade/ps-sea-deic-cis)
Egyptian Bulk Sea Salt for Deicing — GOST Grade I 0.5-5 mm
[PS-SEA-DEIC-CIS-II](/products/salt/de-icing-grade/ps-sea-deic-cis-ii)
Egyptian Bulk Sea Salt for Deicing — GOST Grade II 1.2-10 mm

Typical Egyptian assay for Grade I:

  • NaCl: 97.0-98.0% (rock from Siwa + Qattara meets natively; guaranteed minimum 97.00 %)
  • Insolubles: ≤ 0.5%
  • Moisture: 0.5-1.0% (kiln-dried)
  • Particle size: ≥90% within 0.5-5 mm
  • Pre-wet compatible

How EGG certifies conformity

Many regional exporters are inconsistent lot-to-lot because the specification is checked once, on a type sample, and then assumed. Egypt Globe Group's Quality Assurance division has been at the nucleus of the group since incorporation in 2014 and certifies every lot, not the product type:

  1. Source release — the on-site laboratories at the Siwa Oasis and Qattara Depression rock-salt mines and at the North Sinai (El-Arish / Bardawil) and Red Sea (Ain Sokhna) saltworks assay each production lot for NaCl, insolubles and moisture before it is released for processing or trucking. Rock salt is guaranteed ≥ 97.00 % NaCl; sea salt is classified raw 94–97 %, washed 97.5–98 % or double-washed ≥ 99 %.
  2. Processing verification — screening, kiln-drying and any E535 dosing are run to the standard's grade / type definition and re-checked on the processed lot.
  3. Port laboratory gate — the port-side QC team at the loading port takes a composite sample per the ISO / ASTM sampling plan, runs the full parameter set of the standard and issues the per-lot Certificate of Analysis before the Bill of Lading. Zero tolerance on specification deviation: a lot outside the CoA is rejected at the loading port, never re-graded or renegotiated.
  4. Independent verification — on request, TÜV Austria (primary, EU / GCC), SGS, Intertek (US / UK / ECOWAS) or Bureau Veritas (all ISO/IEC 17020 + 17025; Cotecna on request) sample during loading, run witness or independent tests and issue a Certificate of Inspection with sealed retained samples.
  5. Contractual guarantee — the specification is guaranteed at the port of loading and binding under the sales contract; voyage condition is governed by the B/L and marine insurance. Laycan discipline with documented NOR / SOF keeps the verified lot and the vessel aligned.
