Dolomite — Eastern Desert steel-grade lump, 18 % MgO, with glass-grade and agricultural options
Dolomite, CaMg(CO₃)₂, is the magnesia-bearing carbonate that steelmakers charge as a flux and slag conditioner, that refractory makers calcine into dolomitic lime, and that glass batches use as a combined CaO / MgO source. The steel buyer specifies it on MgO, CaO and the two contaminants that matter in a furnace — SiO₂ and Fe₂O₃ — plus lump size, because fines decrepitate and blind the burden. Egypt's Eastern Desert dolomite belts supply a consistent, low-silica carbonate within short road distance of the Red Sea ports.
Egypt Globe Group's catalogue line is Dolomite Lump 18 % MgO — Steel Industry: MgO ≥ 18 %, CaO ≥ 30 %, SiO₂ ≤ 2 %, Fe₂O₃ ≤ 0.5 %, LOI ≤ 45 %, ≥ 95 % combined carbonates, 40–150 mm lump, loading bulk from Adabiya. Finer glass-grade and agricultural-lime sizings are quoted on request. Many regional quarries ship whatever the face yields that week; Egypt Globe Group's QA division, built in since incorporation, assays MgO and silica on every export lot at the port laboratory before the B/L, and a lot outside the contractual CoA is rejected at the loading port rather than re-graded.
