Bentonite — API 13A sodium bentonite for drilling and calcium bentonite for foundry bonding
Bentonite is a smectite clay whose value lies in what it does in water: a sodium bentonite swells, builds viscosity and seals filter cake in a drilling fluid; a calcium bentonite bonds green-sand moulds in a foundry. The two are not interchangeable, and within each the performance numbers — not the clay percentage — are what the buyer is paying for. Egypt Globe Group supplies both: Sodium Bentonite Drilling Grade, an API 13A product sourced from Egyptian and Turkish deposits, and Calcium Bentonite Foundry Grade, an Egyptian clay for foundry sand bonding and absorbent applications.
API 13A judges drilling bentonite on rheology and filtrate loss, so a lot that looks right on XRF can still fail the viscometer — the standing complaint against regional exporters. Egypt Globe Group's internal QA division, embedded since incorporation, runs the API 13A suspension test on every export lot before the B/L; a failing lot is rejected at the loading port.
