De-icing road salt — highway, airport and municipal programmes
Highway authorities, airport operators, municipal road-maintenance buyers and pre-wetted-spreading specialists across Northern Europe, the Nordics, the UK + Ireland, Eastern Europe and North America are the world's largest seasonal buyers of de-icing salt. Egypt Globe Group ships EN 16811-1 / ASTM D632 / BS 3247 / GOST 13830-compliant de-icing salt direct from the Siwa Oasis and Qattara Depression mines (rock salt, ≥ 97.00 % NaCl, natural ≤ 1.5 % moisture) and from the North Sinai and Red Sea saltworks (kiln-dried Type 1 and natural-moisture Type 2 sea salt) to municipal stockpile programmes worldwide.
Winter tenders are won or lost on three numbers — NaCl, moisture and the sieve band — and on the anti-caking declaration. Regional exporters frequently pass the first lot and fail the third because the source changes or the dryer is skipped. EGG's Quality Assurance division has controlled every lot since the group's incorporation in 2014: each de-icing lot is sieved and assayed at the loading port, the Certificate of Analysis is issued before the B/L, and a lot outside specification is rejected at the port, never re-graded.
Type 1 vs Type 2 — critical for tender matching
Some markets require anti-caking (UK Highways, US state DOTs, Scandinavian municipalities); others prohibit it (German Bundesländer, Switzerland, parts of France on environmental grounds). Match the spec to the tender — we ship both. Type 1 lots carry E535 sodium ferrocyanide ≤ 80 ppm and are kiln-dried (sea) or naturally dry (rock); Type 2 lots carry no anti-caking and are accepted at natural moisture by Mediterranean and southern-EU tenders.
