EN 16811-1 grading classes

EN 16811-1:2016 defines four particle-size classes by mass-% passing test sieves from 0.125 mm to 10 mm. Core requirements:

Min NaCl:
90% by weight (dry) — national annexes commonly tighten to 95–97%
Sulphate (as SO₄):
max 3%
Moisture classes:
Dry ≤0.6% · Semi-dry ≤2.0% · Wet ≤6.0% (undried vacuum salt ≤3.5%)
Anti-caking (ferrocyanide E535/E536):
3–125 mg/kg as Fe(CN)₆
Heavy metals (mg/kg dry):
As ≤2.5, Cd ≤2, Cr ≤5, Cu ≤5, Hg ≤0.5, Ni ≤5, Pb ≤5, Zn ≤20, Al ≤50, Co ≤2; hydrocarbons ≤100
pH (10% solution):
5–10

ASTM D632 / AASHTO M-143 gradation

ASTM D632 (Type I is the de-icing / pavement grade) and AASHTO M143 both require min 95.0% NaCl, graded by mass-% passing sieves from 19.0 mm (¾") down to 600 µm (No.30). Moisture and anti-caking are purchaser-specified, not fixed in the standard.

  • Referenced test methods: ASTM E534 (chemical analysis), ASTM D1429, AASHTO T27 (sieve analysis)
  • Typical commercial product: NaCl 95–99%, moisture ≤1.0%, insolubles ≤2.0%, anti-caking (YPS / sodium ferrocyanide) ~50 ppm (optional)
  • Type II = aggregate stabilization / other uses; grading per purchaser

Egyptian bulk salt to any standard

Egypt Globe Group grades bulk de-icing salt to EN 16811-1 (Type 1 kiln-dried + Type 2 natural), ASTM D632, BS 3247:2011, GOST 13830 and SS-EN 16811-1 — in both rock salt (Siwa & Qattara, ≥97% NaCl) and sea salt (North Sinai & Red Sea), with pre-wetted variants. Quality at the Core — the verification behind the reference

The figures on this page are reference data; the cargo itself is verified lot by lot. Egypt Globe Group was incorporated in 2014 with a dedicated internal Quality Assurance division, and every consignment passes five verification gates between the source and the buyer's arrival laboratory. Specification is guaranteed at the port of loading and binding under the sales contract.
