Bulk De-icing Salt to Swedish Municipality — 3,500 MT EN 16811-1 Grade A

How we sourced, tested and loaded 3,500 MT of EN 16811-1 Grade A rock salt for a Swedish road authority winter campaign — from Siwa Oasis mine face to Gothenburg port in 38 days.

01

The Brief

A Swedish regional road authority required 3,500 MT of EN 16811-1 Grade A rock salt (0/6.3 mm fraction, moisture ≤ 1.5%, NaCl ≥ 97%) for their winter 2024–25 de-icing stockpile. Timeline: 38 days mine-to-port. Budget: DAP Gothenburg, fixed price.

02

Sourcing

Feedstock drawn from the Siwa Oasis mine complex in Egypt's Western Desert — Egypt Globe's preferred source for rock salt above 97% NaCl purity. The deposit formed ~30 million years ago in an ancient evaporite basin; the extreme arid conditions preserve halite in a near-anhydrous state that naturally meets EN 16811-1 Type 1 moisture limits without kiln drying.

All parameters within EN 16811-1 Grade A tolerance. Certificate of Analysis issued and lodged with the buyer's bank before vessel departure.

05

Outcome

Cargo arrived Gothenburg 34 days after mine-face collection — 4 days ahead of schedule. Buyer confirmed zero compaction issues in the covered depot. Re-order placed for winter 2025–26 at 5,000 MT.

"The CoA matched the product exactly — no surprises at the silo. That's all we ask." — Procurement Manager, Regional Roads Authority, Sweden (name withheld)
06

Key Takeaway

Egyptian rock salt from the Siwa–Qattara belt reliably meets EN 16811-1 Grade A without kiln drying — a cost advantage of approximately USD 8–12/MT versus kiln-dried alternatives from Poland or Germany, with equivalent conformity documentation.

Quality at the Core — how this shipment was verified

Every consignment Egypt Globe Group ships passes the same five verification gates. The evidence set below is what the buyer in this case study received; it is the same set issued on every contract, because the group has operated with an internal Quality Assurance division since its 2014 incorporation and treats a lot outside specification as a lot that does not load.
