EN 16811-1 Type 1 de-icing salt — Nordic municipal tender

How Egypt Globe Group won a Swedish municipal de-icing tender for 3,500 MT of EN 16811-1 Type 1 (kiln-dried + anti-caking) salt sourced from Siwa Oasis…

01

The brief

A Nordic municipal road-maintenance authority issued a tender for 3,500
MT of de-icing salt for the 2025/26 winter season. The spec was
EN 16811-1 Type 1 kiln-dried with E535 sodium ferrocyanide anti-caking
≤ 80 ppm, particle size 0/6.3 mm Grade A motorway. Delivery DDP into a
specified inland bonded depot.

02

The challenge

  • Strict moisture spec — ≤ 1.5% moisture, hard to hit with sea salt

in a single pass; required rock-salt feedstock + kiln-drying

Anti-caking declaration
E535 ≤ 80 ppm with batch traceability
DDP not CIF
full destination customs clearance + final-mile

delivery to a 200-km-inland depot, requiring our distribution layer

  • Tender language — bid had to translate Egyptian rock-salt

specifications into the EN-16811-1 grade taxonomy precisely

03

How we executed

  • Source — Siwa Oasis rock-salt mining, run through our Damietta

wash + screen + kiln-dry line

  • Anti-caking dosing — 60 ppm E535 (well below the 80 ppm cap),

per-batch lot certificate

  • Inspection — TÜV Austria / SGS PSI at Damietta with grain-size sieve test +

moisture verification + heavy-metal screen

Loading
bulk vessel from Damietta to Helsingborg
Distribution
Pelot Logistika partnership handled the Helsingborg

→ inland depot leg with refrigerated trucking (winter conditions)

  • Documentation — full L/C bank set + EUR1 preferential origin +

PVoC equivalent for the Nordic destination

What the buyer said

"We tendered eight suppliers including three EU-based ones. Egypt Globe was the only one to bid Type 1 spec with explicit ferrocyanide declaration and a DDP price including final-mile. Won on quality match + total landed cost."

Quality at the Core — how this shipment was verified

Every consignment Egypt Globe Group ships passes the same five verification gates. The evidence set below is what the buyer in this case study received; it is the same set issued on every contract, because the group has operated with an internal Quality Assurance division since its 2014 incorporation and treats a lot outside specification as a lot that does not load.
